How does the iStraw work?
iStraw is a straw fitted with a special membrane, which uses Micro-filtration technology to purify the potentially contaminated water. The special membrane acts like a micro-porous sieve that filters out harmful bacteria in the water leaving the water 99.9999% safe and clean to drink.
Operating Instructions
If operating and maintenance instructions below are observed, the iStraw can be expected to purify up to 500 litres of municipal or town tap water. The capacity of the iStraw to purify water depends on the quality of water to be purified.
Also:- The iStraw must not be used to purify cloudy or slightly salty (brackish/turbid) water.
- The iStraw must not be used to purify hot water - that is to say water having a temperature over 32°C or 90°F
- The iStraw must not be frozen otherwise damage to it's special filter membrane will occur.
For optimum results, submerge the inflow opening of the iStraw in the receptacle holding water to a depth no greater than the high water mark shown in diagram. Once submerged, simply sip through the mouthpiece as one normally sips through a standard straw.
Replace the mouthpiece cover once the iStraw is used.
Do not use the iStraw in conjunction with a pump to filter water.
Note: The iStraw does not remove chemical contaminants or viruses contained in water. If there is a risk of contamination, chemical disinfecting products must first be used to neutralise the contamination. Chlorine based drinking water disinfectants, purification tablets, can be used for this purpose.
The filter membrane in the iStraw acts like a micro-porous sieve that filters out particles in the water inlcuding micro-organisms. Therefore, while in use, the iStraw must be kept clean and must be regularly disinfected.
